Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) arrives at Shawshank Prison as a new inmate suspected of murder. He befriends the lifer Red (Morgan Freeman), and together they try to survive the inhumane environment of the prison system. They refuse to fall into resignation, giving hope to themselves and their fellow inmates. The film won many film critics' awards and, thanks to its deeply human message, excellent acting performances, and impressive execution, was nominated for 7 Academy Awards—for Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Morgan Freeman), Best Screenplay, Cinematography, Original Score, Film Editing, and Sound.
