About the movie: In *The Notebook*, an elderly man reads from his faded notebook to a patient (Gena Rowlands) at a nursing home, recounting the story of the only woman in his life. The film takes us back in time to follow the lives of two young people from North Carolina who come from completely different backgrounds: Allie (Rachel McAdams) and Noah (Ryan Gosling). Although Allie was raised in a beautiful, luxurious Southern mansion and Noah grew up in a humble cottage where musicians would jam on the doorstep, nothing stops the young couple from spending one wonderful summer together before they are separated first by their parents and then by World War II. When the soldiers return home after the war, everything has changed. Allie is engaged to a successful businessman, and Noah lives alone with his memories in a 200-year-old house that he is beautifully restoring. But when Allie sees an article in the local newspaper about Noah’s work, she knows she must seek him out and decide once and for all whether to follow her heart or her head.
